Cristiano Ronaldo has been suspended for 30 days by the Portuguese Football Federation (FPF) following his departure from the national team camp amid a dispute over his role in the squad.
The federation’s disciplinary council announced the decision on Monday, upholding the charge against the 41-year-old forward and imposing an additional fine of €255 ($285.83).
Ronaldo reportedly left Portugal’s base in Copenhagen ahead of their Nations League fixture against Denmark earlier this month after accusing coach Jorge Jesus of twice breaking his promise regarding his role in the team. The dispute followed Ronaldo’s omission from the starting line-up against Norway, where he remained an unused substitute.
Jesus denied reaching any agreement with the veteran forward but indicated that Ronaldo could return to the squad following Portugal’s 2–1 victory.

In its ruling, the disciplinary council’s non-professional section found that Ronaldo had intentionally committed an offence under Article 160(1) of the federation’s disciplinary regulations. Proceedings were initiated on October 9 over incidents reported two days earlier.
However, the federation did not clarify which matches or activities the suspension would cover or whether time served under a provisional suspension would count towards the 30-day penalty.

Ronaldo later apologised for failing to acknowledge supporters after the match against Norway and for leaving his teammates. He also reaffirmed his availability for selection after serving any punishment arising from the incident.
Portuguese FA president Pedro Proença has expressed the federation’s desire to see the five-time Ballon d’Or winner return to the national team once the disciplinary matter is resolved.
