COVID-19: Real Madrid Captain Sergio Ramos Tests Positive

Spanish international and Real Madrid captain Sergio Ramos has tested positive for COVID-19, the club announced.

The centre back has been missing for Real Madrid over the past few weeks since returning from international duty with Spain with a calf injury. It was expected that Ramos would miss around a month out injured, and it remains to be seen whether his positive test will impact his return time or not.

Ramos was last seen in the stands at the Alfredo Di Stefano stadium last Saturday for the El Clasico, cheering and protesting from his seat. At the end of the game he was also in the tunnel, where he followed the dispute between some Barcelona players and referee Jesus Gil Manzano.

The 35-year-old has barely been in contact with his teammates as he continues to recover from a muscle injury and will now self-isolate and follow the necessary health measures.

Ramos is currently not the only player in the Madrid squad to have contracted COVID-19, as his defensive partner Raphael Varane, is also out of the squad due to a positive test.
