The Nigerian government and the people of Cross River State have expressed shock and sadness over the death of the Commissioner for Police, Abudukadir Jimoh.
A statement signed by Christian Ita, the Special Adviser, Media and Publicity to Cross River State Governor, Ben Ayade described his death as “a great loss to the state, country and the police force.”
According to the statement, Governor Ayade described late Jimoh as, “a brave and courageous officer who was a central figure in the fight against kidnapping and other crimes in the state.”
“You were a hero in our relentless quest to ensure peace. Your gallantry and bravery will remain an enduring memory as we mourn your sudden demise. You kept us safe and gave us you’re all. We will forever remember you for your courage and bravery. Nothing will fill the void your passing has created especially in our fight against criminality,” Ayade eulogized.
He noted that the people of Calabar have been in a sober mood since the news concerning the death of the late Police Commissioner Jimoh was received. His skills, dexterity intellect and expertise will be greatly missed.
Meanwhile, speculations on social media have it that the late Police Commissioner died from Covid-19 complications.
However, Professor Ikpeme Asanye Ikpeme, the Chief Medical Director of the University of Calabar Teaching Hospital neither denied nor confirmed that Jimoh died of Covid-19 related illness.
Rather, the CMD urged all those who brought him to the hospital and persons that may have been in close contact with him to proceed on isolation, while covid-19 protocols would be observed before Jimoh’s remains could be evacuated from the facility.
Dr Betta Edu, the Commissioner for Health, also disclosed that samples from the deceased have been taken for analysis to determine the real cause of the Police Commissioner’s death.
