Defence Minister Mourns Victims of NAF 931 Crash

The Minister of Defence, General Christopher Musa (Rtd), has expressed deep sorrow over the crash of military aircraft NAF 931, which claimed the lives of officers and airmen of the Armed Forces of Nigeria as well as civilians on board.

In a statement signed by the Minister, he described the incident as a tragic loss to the Armed Forces and the country, saying “the personnel involved were engaged in a routine flight mission while serving Nigeria with courage, devotion and patriotism.’

He also described the deceased military personnel as officers and men who exemplified military professionalism, loyalty and commitment to the defence of Nigeria.

General Musa extended condolences on behalf of the Ministry of Defence and the Armed Forces to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces, the leadership of the Armed Forces, and the immediate families, loved ones and colleagues of the military personnel who died.

He also expressed sympathy to the families of the civilians who were on board the aircraft, saying “the Ministry shared in their grief.’

The Minister disclosed that a comprehensive investigation had been ordered into the circumstances surrounding the crash to determine its cause and ensure that necessary operational safety protocols are reinforced across military aviation units.

General Musa prayed for the eternal repose of the departed and for God to grant their families, the military community and Nigerians the fortitude to bear the loss.
