Ebonyi State Governor Francis Nwifuru has approved a monthly allowance of ₦30,000 for every National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) member serving in the state as part of efforts to support youth welfare and development.
Governor Nwifuru announced the initiative on Friday during the swearing-in ceremony of the 2026 Batch ‘B’ Stream II corps members at the NYSC Permanent Orientation Camp in Afikpo.
Represented by the Commissioner for Youth and Sports Development, Chidiebere Onyia, the governor welcomed the corps members to Ebonyi, describing the state as peaceful, secure and accommodating, with opportunities for young people.
Onyia urged the corps members to embrace Nigeria’s diversity, respect their host communities and contribute to the development of the state.
“I want to encourage the Corps members to see their service year as an opportunity for personal growth, skills development and nation building,” he said.
He assured them of the state government’s support throughout their service year and wished them a “safe, productive and rewarding experience” in Ebonyi.
The commissioner, represented by the Permanent Secretary of the ministry, Hilary Ogbonna, also urged the corps members to uphold hard work, discipline, integrity and respect for constituted authorities.
He said the Nwifuru administration remained committed to youth development and the welfare and security of corps members serving in the state.
Improved Camp Facilities
The NYSC Coordinator in Ebonyi, Mrs Pat Maidariya, appealed to the state government to further improve facilities at the permanent orientation camp in Afikpo.
She called for the construction of a standard dining hall and kitchen, the establishment of a Skills Acquisition and Entrepreneurship Development Centre, renovation of the perimeter fence and additional facilities at the multipurpose hall.
Maidariya commended the Ebonyi State Government for its continued partnership with the NYSC, particularly in youth development and empowerment.
She urged the corps members to actively participate in camp activities, remain disciplined and uphold the values of patriotism, unity, integrity and selfless service.
The orientation ceremony featured the signing of the oath of allegiance by corps members, a Man ‘O’ War display and an inspection of projects at the camp.
The event also marked the official opening of the 2026 Batch ‘B’ Stream II Orientation Course for corps members deployed to Ebonyi State.
