The Ebonyi State House of Assembly Committee on Education has commended the pace of development at the State College of Health Science, Ngbo, in Ohaukwu Local Government Area of the state.
The Chairman of the Committee, Aloysius Nwodo, who led members on a familiarisation visit to the college, said the institution had witnessed aggressive transformation under the leadership of the new Provost, Mrs Chetachi Chibueze.
Nwodo, who represents Ebonyi North West State Constituency in the House of Assembly, said the rapid development at the college reflected the unwavering commitment of the Ebonyi State Government to raising educational and health standards in the state.

He said, “The aggressive academic activities going on in the institution guarantee a steady supply of professional health workers to the Ebonyi State Government, while the environmental cleanliness and infrastructural developments in the College is also commendable.”
The lawmaker explained that the visit was aimed at strengthening standards in the college and not to witch-hunt anyone, while promising legislative support for the growth of the institution.
In her response, the Provost of the college, Mrs Chetachi Chibueze, listed the achievements of her administration to include the construction of an ultra-modern ICT Centre, securing accreditation for five departments to write the National Board for Technical Education (NBTE) examinations, construction of a college gate with a security post and perimeter fencing of the college.
She said her administration had also facilitated the amendment of the college law and embarked on the renovation of the school’s library block, canteen, clinic and female hostel, as well as the establishment of the school’s Entrepreneurship Centre.
Chibueze noted that there had also been significant improvement in student enrolment.
She thanked the State Governor, Francis Nwifuru, for appointing her as Provost of the college and expressed appreciation to the State House of Assembly for passing the law establishing the institution.
The Provost disclosed that the college had expanded programmes in Environmental Health, Community Health and Health Information Management to drive a robust healthcare delivery system.
Chibueze, however, appealed for government intervention in areas of critical need, citing the lack of operational vehicles and shortage of manpower as some of the major challenges facing the institution.
She informed the Committee that Governor Nwifuru had done a lot to uplift the institution, but solicited more support to enable it to attain the desired standards.
In a remark, the Deputy Leader of the Ebonyi State House of Assembly and member of the Committee, Joseph Ununu, lauded the Provost for the visible programmes which he said had positioned the institution for success.
The Committee pledged to work in synergy with the management of the college to ensure sustainable growth and development of the institution.
