Ebonyi Assembly Confirms 2 Commissioner Nominees

The Ebonyi State House of Assembly has confirmed two commissioner nominees, paving the way for their appointment into the State Executive Council.

The nominees, Prof. Amari Omaka and Nwenugwu Nwite, were confirmed following a formal request submitted by Governor Francis Nwifuru to the Assembly, seeking legislative approval for their appointments.

Prof. Omaka, a Senior Advocate of Nigeria (SAN), previously served as Commissioner for Higher Education in the Nwifuru administration before leaving office about six months ago following a communal clash between the Amasiri and Okporojo communities in Edda Local Government Area of the state.

Documents presented to the Assembly showed that Nwite served as a member of the Ebonyi State House of Assembly in 2007. His tenure, however, was cut short in 2008 after a court judgment nullified his election.

Following their introduction, the nominees were asked to take a bow and leave the chamber in line with the Assembly’s standing rules, having previously undergone legislative screening and held public offices.

The confirmation followed deliberations by lawmakers, who approved the governor’s request for their appointment as commissioners.

The two nominees are expected to be sworn in later this week as members of the Ebonyi State Executive Council.
