The Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) is training statistical leaders from its member states and Mauritania to strengthen leadership capacity and improve the effectiveness of National Statistical Systems across the region.
The five-day training, holding from October 5 to 9, 2026, in Monrovia, Liberia, is being organised by the ECOWAS Commission’s Department of Economic Affairs and Agriculture.

A statement on the ECOWAS website, read that the training was funded by the World Bank through the Project for the Harmonisation and Improvement of Statistics in West and Central Africa, HISWACA.
The programme is designed to strengthen the leadership and management skills of officials from National Statistical Offices, NSOs, and National Statistical Systems, NSSs.
Participants also include representatives of the West African Monetary Agency, WAMA, the West African Monetary Institute, WAMI, and technical staff of the ECOWAS Commission.

The workshop will equip participants with modern skills to lead teams effectively, adapt to the evolving data ecosystem and improve the quality and efficiency of statistical systems across the region.
