The Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission (NERC) has reported ₦603.64 billion in electricity revenue collection in the second quarter of 2026, while highlighting persistent distribution losses and billing inefficiencies across the Nigerian Electricity Supply Industry.
According to NERC’s Q2, 2026 Operational and Commercial Performance Report, on it’s social media handle, electricity distribution companies (DisCos) billed ₦744.67 billion out of ₦946.57 billion worth of energy received, representing 79 per cent billing efficiency.
Revenue collection stood at 81 per cent, while DisCos achieved a market remittance rate of 94 per cent, settling ₦385.44 billion out of ₦410.38 billion in invoices issued by Nigerian Bulk Electricity Trading Plc and the Market Operator.
The report showed that average Aggregate Technical, Commercial and Collection (ATC&C) losses stood at 36 per cent, significantly above the allowed target of 16.92 per cent.
Kaduna Electricity Distribution Company recorded the highest losses at 67.70 per cent, followed by Jos DisCo at 61.30 per cent and Kano DisCo at 60.43 per cent. Eko DisCo recorded the lowest loss at 21 per cent.
On metering, DisCos installed 350,270 additional meters during the quarter, bringing the national metering rate to 62 per cent, with 7.74 million customers metered out of 12.59 million active customers.
Meanwhile, grid-connected power plants recorded a 90 per cent plant load factor, generating an average of 4,022.40 megawatt-hours per hour.
NERC also disclosed that it issued 64 regulatory instruments during the quarter, including 35 orders, 18 metering service certificates and five new licences.
The figures highlight progress in market remittance and metering, but underline the need to reduce distribution losses and improve billing and revenue collection to strengthen the financial sustainability of Nigeria’s electricity market.
