Agricultural experts have urged farmers in Kaduna State to embrace climate-smart practices, plan ahead of each farming season and adopt improved seeds to increase productivity and profitability.
The Chief Executive Officer of Greenerian Agritek Services, Mohammed Ibrahim, gave the advice while speaking with journalists at a sensitisation workshop on entrepreneurship, SME development, environmental sustainability and climate-smart agriculture in Kaduna.
Ibrahim advised farmers to conduct soil tests, study weather forecasts and assess risks such as flooding and pest attacks before planting.
He recommended drought-tolerant, early-maturing and pest-resistant seeds, as well as organic fertilisers, saying the measures could reduce production costs, improve soil health and strengthen farmers’ resilience to climate change.

The agricultural expert also called for stronger agricultural extension services to bridge the information gap between government, research institutions and farmers.
He stressed that agriculture should be treated as a business, with proper planning, cost management and risk assessment critical to achieving profitable farming.
Ibrahim, who is also the Kaduna State Chairman of the Groundnut Millers Farmers Association of Nigeria, said he had built a network of more than 20,000 farmers across the state, with women and youths among the major beneficiaries of his training programmes.
He disclosed that farmers received regular agricultural information and guidance through WhatsApp platforms.
Also speaking, the Kaduna State Manager of the Small and Medium Enterprises Development Agency of Nigeria (SMEDAN), Malam Badamasi Yau Barau, urged nano, micro and small business owners to register with the agency to access government interventions.
Barau explained that registration would provide SMEDAN with information on businesses, their challenges and funding needs, enabling the agency to provide more targeted support.
He disclosed that SMEDAN was facilitating free Corporate Affairs Commission (CAC) registration, with about 250,000 businesses already registered and another 250,000 slots available.
According to him, registered nano and micro businesses could access N50,000 under the Conditional Grant Scheme, with about N115 million already disbursed to beneficiaries across Kaduna State’s 23 local government areas.
The workshop, themed “Empowering Entrepreneurs and SMEs through Climate-Smart Agriculture, Green Innovation, Sustainable Trade and Economic Growth,” was organised by the ITIEC 2026 Secretariat in collaboration with the Interfaith Mediation Centre (IMC) Climate Change and Environment Desk, African Climate Reporters (ACR), and the Office of the Special Assistant to the Kaduna State Governor on Climate Change.
