FCCPC Earns Multiple Honours for Consumer Protection, Fair Competition

By Jennifer Inah, Abuja

The Federal Competition and Consumer Protection Commission (FCCPC) has received multiple awards and nominations in recognition of its efforts to protect consumer rights, promote fair competition and strengthen responsible business practices in Nigeria.

The recognitions come from Daily Independent Newspaper, NaijaTimes, the Aisha Babangida Foundation and BrandXchange.

Presenting the Institutional Integrity and Public Service Award to the FCCPC Executive Vice Chairman and Chief Executive Officer, Tunji Bello, in Abuja, NaijaTimes Publisher and Editor-in-Chief, Ehi Braimah, said the honour recognised the Commission’s contributions to Nigeria’s economic development.

Braimah said the award acknowledged the FCCPC’s role in advancing consumer welfare, promoting competitive markets and encouraging responsible business conduct.

NaijaTimes, published by the NaijaTimes Journalism Foundation, was represented at the ceremony by its Editorial Board Chairman, James Akpadem, and Editor, Toby Prince.

Responding, Bello thanked the organisation for the recognition, saying it would encourage the Commission to strengthen its commitment to its mandate.

“We are encouraged that our work is attracting attention and recognition from different quarters. For us, what counts more is the difference we make in the lives of consumers and in the integrity of the marketplace. These recognitions challenge us to do more, strengthen our resolve and remain focused on building markets where businesses can compete fairly and consumers are treated justly,” Bello said.

The ceremony, held at the FCCPC corporate headquarters in Abuja, was attended by the Commission’s Executive Commissioner of Operations, Louis Odion; Executive Commissioner of Corporate Services, Ummusalma Isiaku Rabiu; and other directors.

Other Recognitions

In a separate development, Daily Independent Newspaper nominated the FCCPC for its 2026 Regulator of the Year Award, citing the Commission’s commitment to its mandate.

The Women Enterprise Alliance, under the auspices of the Aisha Babangida Foundation, also shortlisted the Commission for its Regulatory Body of the Year Award.

In its citation, the organisation said the recognition celebrated the Commission’s regulatory role and the wider impact of effective regulation on enterprise confidence, market participation and sustainable economic development.

BrandXchange also named the FCCPC recipient of its 2026 Citizen-Centric Ministry, Department and Agency (MDA) of the Year Award in the federal category.

The organisation said the award recognised the Commission’s service, achievements and commitment to excellence.

The recognitions highlight the role of consumer protection, fair competition and effective regulation in building confidence in Nigeria’s markets and supporting sustainable economic development.
