The Agriculture and Rural Development Secretariat (ARDS) of the Federal Capital Territory Administration (FCTA) has mobilised veterinary and animal health personnel ahead of a two-week free mass rabies vaccination exercise across the FCT.
The Director of Veterinary Services, Dr Dandam Karnak, gave the charge while addressing veterinary and animal health officials at the FCT Veterinary Clinic in Nyanya.
Dr Karnak, who represented the Mandate Secretary of the Agriculture and Rural Development Secretariat, Comrade Abdullahi Suleiman Ango, commended the field officers for their commitment to the public health intervention.
He stressed the need for discipline and professionalism throughout the exercise, noting that these would be critical to its success.
The Director also assured the teams of the administration’s support as they move across the six Area Councils to vaccinate animals and ensure that communities are not left out of the campaign.
Dr Karnak emphasised that the vaccination exercise is entirely free and fully funded by the FCTA.
He warned that no veterinary or animal health officer should demand or accept payment from pet owners, adding that anyone found violating the directive would face appropriate disciplinary action.
The two-week exercise is aimed at strengthening efforts to prevent and control rabies and protect public health across the Federal Capital Territory.
