The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, is set to oversee the commissioning of more than 10 major infrastructure projects across the territory between December 2026 and January 2027.
Despite being away from Abuja for a period of rest and relaxation, the minister has continued to receive updates on developments in the FCT, particularly the progress of ongoing projects and preparations for their commissioning.
The Senior Special Assistant to the Minister on Public Communications and Social Media, Lere Olayinka, disclosed this in a statement issued on Friday.
Olayinka said Wike’s temporary absence from Abuja did not amount to disengagement from his responsibilities, noting that the minister remained in contact with his team and continued to monitor developments in the territory.
“Rather, he has continued to keep in touch with his team and developments within the FCT, particularly concerning the progress of ongoing projects and preparations for new ones,” Olayinka said.
According to him, the projects, which are located in different parts of the FCT, are designed to improve connectivity, strengthen public infrastructure and extend development beyond the city centre to satellite towns and emerging districts.
Wike has consistently stressed the need for balanced infrastructure development across the FCT, with emphasis on ensuring that residents of satellite communities also benefit from government projects and services.
The projects scheduled for commissioning will add to the roads, bridges, public buildings, water infrastructure and other facilities delivered or accelerated under the Minister since his appointment.
Olayinka said Wike had remained focused on ensuring that contractors adhere to agreed timelines and deliver projects according to specifications.
He added that the Minister’s current period of rest followed months of intensive activities centred on infrastructure development across the FCT.
Wike has maintained that the impact of government should be measured by tangible projects that improve the lives of residents rather than promises and policy pronouncements.
The Minister is expected to return to Abuja and continue with the next phase of the FCT’s infrastructure development programme.
