First Lady Advocates Collective Efforts to Protect Universe

By Timothy Choji, Abuja

First Lady Oluremi Tinubu has called for concerted efforts to protect the universe as Nigeria joins the rest of the world in commemorating this year’s World Environment Day

In her message, Mrs Tinubu said challenges associated with the environment must be addressed by all stakeholders.

She said; “On this World Environment Day 2026, with the theme “A Global Call for Climate Action,” I join Nigerians and millions around the world in calling for urgent and collective action to protect our planet and secure a better future for generations to come.

“Climate change is no longer a distant threat. Rising temperatures, flooding, drought, desertification, and environmental degradation continue to affect lives, livelihoods, food security, and public health across the globe, including here in Nigeria.”

The First Lady stressed that government at all levels and individuals must contribute their quota towards addressing the challenges.

“As individuals, communities, and nations, we all have a role to play in restoring our environment, promoting sustainable practices, protecting our natural resources, and building climate-resilient societies.

“Let us rise together in this global call for climate action and work toward a safer, greener, and more sustainable future for all. Happy Environment Day 2026,” Mrs Tinubu said.
