Nigeria’s First Lady, Oluremi Tinubu, has called for the continued celebration of teachers, citing their vital role in shaping the lives of children and young people, as the world marks the 2026 World Teachers’ Day.
In her message marking the day, Mrs Tinubu said teachers contribute a lot towards building a better world.
She said; “On this World Teachers’ Day 2026, commemorated under the theme, “Standing with Teachers: 60 Years of Protecting the Profession, Advancing Its Status and Shaping Our Futures..We celebrate the contributions of teachers to national development.”
“Our teachers shape minds, nurture dreams and prepare future generations to build a better world,” Mrs Tinubu said.

The First Lady encouraged government and other stakeholders to ensure teachers are are well catered for in order to boost their efficiency.
“I encourage policymakers and society at large to continue to protect the teaching profession, improve teachers’ welfare, and elevate their status,” Mrs Tinubu added.
World Teachers’ Day is observed annually on October 5 to recognise the contributions of teachers to education and society, and to highlight the importance of supporting the teaching profession.
