Nigeria’s triumphant U-17 women’s football team, the Flamingos, returned to the country with the WAFU-B U-17 Girls Cup, following their successful campaign in the regional competition.
The young champions arrived at the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport in Abuja, where they were received by members of the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) management and staff.
The reception provided an opportunity for officials to celebrate the team’s achievement and acknowledge the players’ efforts in securing the regional title.

Among the NFF officials present at the airport were the Director of Protocol, Barnabas Joro; Director of Marketing and Sponsorship, Alizor Chuks.
Also, Head of Audit and Compliance, Margaret Magai; and Assistant Director of Legal Services, Queen Otarakpo.
Their presence underscored the federation’s recognition of the Flamingos’ accomplishment
The Flamingos’ triumph was further enhanced by individual honours for two of their players.
Oluwakemi Adegbuyi was named the Most Valuable Player (MVP) of the competition, recognising her influential contribution to Nigeria’s successful campaign.
Goalkeeper Onyinyechi Opara also earned individual recognition after being awarded the Golden Glove for her outstanding performances between the posts.

The honour reflects her contribution to the team’s impressive showing throughout the tournament.
The regional title, alongside the individual awards secured by Adegbuyi and Opara, adds further significance to the Flamingos’ campaign. It also highlights the talent within Nigeria’s U17 women’s team.
Their return with the trophy marks another celebratory moment for Nigerian women’s football and provides valuable experience for the young players as they continue their development.
