Former Nigerian President Olusegun Obasanjo is set to officially launch the “Lagos to the World” expedition on May 31, 2026, at the Olusegun Obasanjo Presidential Library in Abeokuta.
The initiative is a solo transcontinental road journey designed to raise awareness about cancer and men’s health.
“The expedition was created by Nigerian entrepreneur and BMW enthusiast U. Erik Nwagwu, who said the mission was inspired by the deaths of his mother, Professor Helen Nwagwu, and his sister, Onyema Fern Eseka, both from cancer”.
According to statements issued by Obasanjo’s media aide, Kehinde Akinyemi, the project is being described as the first solo overland circumnavigation attempt from Nigeria in a Nigerian-plated BMW 535i. The journey is expected to cross six continents in multiple phases.
A major component of the expedition is a prostate cancer awareness campaign, organisers say free prostate cancer screenings and healthcare outreach activities will be conducted in underserved roadside communities along the route, targeting people who are often missed by traditional health campaigns.
The initiative has also attracted institutional support from companies including AXA Mansard Insurance as insurance partner, Zuri Health for digital healthcare services and screenings, and Studio 24 for multimedia coverage.
