The Gombe State Government has approved a series of major interventions in education and commercial development, with more than N534 million earmarked for examinations, academic support and the relocation of Tudun Hatsi Market.
The Commissioner for Information, Moses Kyari, announced the approvals, saying they were aimed at strengthening the education sector, supporting tertiary institutions and improving the safety, organisation and functionality of commercial activities across the state.
According to Mr Kyari, the interventions reflected Governor Inuwa Yahaya’s commitment to human capital development, quality education and inclusive socio-economic development.
“The government approved N64,863,310 for the conduct of mock and special entrance examinations, including the Senior Secondary School Certificate Examination (SSCE),” he said.

Mr Kyari said the funding would ensure that eligible students had the necessary support to participate in the examinations under properly coordinated arrangements.
According to him, the governor also approved N118,717,560 for the conduct of the Basic Education Certificate Examination across the state.
“The examination, which is an important assessment at the end of the basic education cycle, is expected to benefit from the funding through improved administration, accessibility and credibility,” said Mr Kyari.
In the tertiary education sector, the Information Commissioner said the state government had approved N148,762,378.66 as a consolidated academic tool allowance for academic staff of Gombe State University.
Mr Kyari said the intervention was intended to support lecturers in carrying out their teaching, research and other academic responsibilities while improving the university’s academic environment and institutional capacity.
He noted that the latest approval brings the university’s financial provision to N240 million, alongside previous funding provided to the institution.
Mr Kyari said the government also approved the relocation of Tudun Hatsi Market to Dukku Road as part of measures to improve urban planning, traffic management and the organisation of commercial activities.
He said a total of N200 million was approved for the relocation and associated infrastructure, while an additional N60 million was approved by the local government.
Mr Kyari said the compensation provision demonstrated the administration’s commitment to protecting the interests and livelihoods of people affected by the relocation.
He added that the relocation would also help preserve a historical mosque as a state monument while creating a safer and more suitable environment for traders and residents.
