Akwa Ibom State Governor, Umo Eno, has been honoured by Nigerian nurses and heads of nursing services in federal health institutions for his administration’s investments in healthcare infrastructure, workforce development and improved service delivery.
The recognition was presented by the Body of Heads of Nursing Services Department and Principals of Schools in Federal Health Institutions (BOHNAPFHI) and the National Association of Nigerian Nurses and Midwives (NANNM) during a stakeholders’ engagement on ARISE 2.0 and a review of projects scheduled for commissioning in September 2026 in Uyo.
BOHNAPFHI honoured the governor for his exemplary leadership, visionary contributions and commitment to the development of healthcare services and infrastructure through the ARISE Agenda.

NANNM also conferred on him the Nurse-Friendly Governor Award in recognition of his commitment to strengthening the nursing and midwifery workforce.
The Registrar and Chief Executive Officer of the Nursing and Midwifery Council of Nigeria, Ndaji Alhassan, said the delegation visited to appreciate Governor Eno’s contributions to healthcare development.
Alhassan, accompanied by the National Chairman of BOHNAPFHI, Dr Jenny Akpan, commended projects such as the Ibom Medical City, model primary healthcare centres and other health infrastructure initiatives, describing them as commendable and worthy of recognition.
Similarly, the National President of NANNM, represented by the National Financial Secretary, Comrade Dr Ojong Ofut Ogar, praised the governor for what he described as significant achievements in the health sector.
Ogar also appreciated the administration for providing an enabling environment for the association to host its 2026 conference in Akwa Ibom State.
The State Chairman of NANNM, Comrade Nsikan Udoh, said nurses in Akwa Ibom had experienced remarkable improvements in healthcare infrastructure, welfare and working conditions under the current administration.
He assured the Governor of the association’s continued support for his administration and the ARISE Agenda.
Responding, Governor Eno dedicated the honours to the people of Akwa Ibom State and all those contributing to the development of the health sector.
He said the administration’s healthcare transformation agenda focused on both infrastructure and human capital development, noting that the state had employed young graduates and engaged retired nurses to benefit from their experience and expertise.
The Governor stressed that a healthy population remained critical to the success of any government and assured that his administration would continue to invest in healthcare.
He also commended the Commissioner for Health, Dr Ekem John, for his commitment to advancing healthcare delivery in the state.
“I appreciate both organisations for these honours and for recognising the progress we are making through projects such as the Ibom Medical City, Model Primary Healthcare Centres and our continued investment in health workers.
“We will continue to strengthen healthcare delivery across the state,” he pledged.
