Governor Francis Nwifuru of Ebonyi State has sacked the state’s Commissioner for Works, Stanley Lebechi Mbam.
The announcement of the commissioner’s removal from office was contained in a statement issued on Saturday by the Chief Press Secretary to the governor, Dr Monday Uzor, and made available to newsmen in Abakaliki, the Ebonyi State capital.
According to the statement, the governor also directed Mbam to hand over all government property in his possession, including his official vehicle, to the Secretary to the State Government, while the Permanent Secretary in the Ministry takes over his duties.
Reports say this is the third disciplinary action against Mbam since he assumed office as Works Commissioner in Governor Nwifuru’s administration.
Voice of Nigeria recalls that in July last year, the sacked commissioner was among the government officials who were suspended by the governor for being absent from an important government function.
Mbam had earlier been suspended on account of what Governor Nwifuru described as “dereliction of duties”.
This time, no reason has been given for his removal, and the state government is yet to appoint a replacement for the commissioner.
Meanwhile, Governor Nwifuru has assured the people of Ebonyi State that his administration was focused on effective governance, as it is committed to delivering on improved public infrastructure in the state.
