Anambra State Governor, Prof. Chukwuma Soludo, has urged Nigerians to remain united, hopeful and committed to building a stronger and more prosperous nation as Nigeria marks its 66th Independence Anniversary.
In a goodwill message marking the anniversary and the beginning of October, Soludo said the occasion provided an opportunity for Nigerians to reflect on the country’s journey, achievements and challenges while renewing their commitment to national development.
The Governor noted that Nigeria’s 66 years of independence had been marked by trials and triumphs, stressing that the country remained resilient, hopeful and endowed with enormous potential.

“At 66, Nigeria has come a long way. We have had our trials and our triumphs, but we remain a resilient, hopeful and blessed nation. The best of Nigeria is still ahead of us,” Soludo stated
He noted that the Independence Anniversary coincided with the beginning of the final quarter of 2026, describing the convergence as a reminder of the importance of using time and available opportunities to advance development.
“As we step into October and the final lap of 2026, I urge us to stay united, stay hopeful, and stay committed to building the Anambra of our dreams and the Nigeria we all desire,” the Governor stressed.
Soludo called for sustained commitment to peace, progress and prosperity, stressing that citizens had a role to play in shaping the future of the country.
He congratulated Nigerians on the Independence Anniversary and wished citizens a peaceful and prosperous final quarter of the year.
The wife of the Anambra State Governor, Dr Nonye Soludo, also described Nigeria at 66 as a nation of “immense possibilities,” saying the anniversary should renew citizens’ sense of responsibility towards the country’s future.
“Our independence is not only a celebration of where we have come from, but a reminder of the responsibility we share in building the Nigeria we really want to see,” she said.
She called for continued national efforts to promote peace, unity, prosperity and hope, urging Nigerians to contribute positively to the development of the country for present and future generations.
The Governor’s wife congratulated Nigerians on the 66th Independence Anniversary and expressed hope for a better and more united nation.
Nigeria gained independence from British colonial rule on October 1, 1960, making the 2026 celebration the country’s 66th Independence Anniversary.
