The Registrar of the Community Health Practitioners Registration Board of Nigeria (CHPRBN), Dr. Bashir Idris, has commended President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for his administration’s commitment to overhauling and strengthening the country’s healthcare system.
Speaking on Wednesday at the induction ceremony of 50 newly qualified community health practitioners from the College of Health Technology, Foreign Links Campus, Moro, Ile-Ife, Osun State, Dr. Idris praised the government’s efforts in healthcare financing, infrastructure upgrades, and sectoral reforms aimed at improving health outcomes nationwide.
Represented by Mr. Abayomi Great, Zonal Technical Officer for the South West, Idris urged the inductees to complement government efforts by remaining diligent, ethical, and professional in their service to communities.
“No matter the challenges you encounter, your duty is to serve with integrity, uphold professional ethics, and provide quality healthcare,” he said.

In her address, Dr. Nsikak Akpan, Provost of the College, emphasized that the inductees are not merely health workers but educators, counsellors, and agents of change in Nigeria’s healthcare landscape.
“You will serve in challenging terrain. But in every village and underserved community, your integrity, compassion, and competence will rebuild trust in our healthcare system,” Akpan said.

She reminded them that healthcare is a sacred calling—not just a job—and encouraged them to see themselves as hope bearers and life restorers.

Also speaking, the College Registrar, Mrs. Clara Akinosun, charged the new practitioners to prioritise the well-being of their communities and embrace lifelong learning to improve their effectiveness.
“You are the link between rural populations and the healthcare system. Despite limited resources and poor infrastructure, your resilience and knowledge can bring lasting impact,” she said.
She described them as cornerstones of their communities, and urged them to become ambassadors of the institution and champions of accessible, quality primary healthcare.

The induction ceremony marks a pivotal milestone in Nigeria’s ongoing efforts to strengthen community-based healthcare delivery, especially in underserved and rural areas.
With the government’s renewed push for health sector transformation and grassroots healthcare delivery, the role of community health practitioners has become more critical than ever in achieving universal health coverage and health equity across the country.
