The House of Representatives Committee on Petroleum (Downstream) has warned Nigerians to stop unnecessary and unwarranted Petitions against players in the Petroleum sector.
The chairman of the committee, Mr. Ikeaguonu Ugochinyere gave the advice at the meeting of the committee, in Abuja.
He said that the warning was a result of an unsubstantiated petition against NIPCO Gas by a non-governmental organisation, Coalition of Transparency and Accountability in Nigeria’s Petroleum Sector.

He said that the committee deals with concrete evidence and not speculation.
” Our doors are open to every Nigerian who brings a genuine complaint with evidence, and we will investigate any public officer without fear or favour.
“But our processes must be fair to all sides. Allegations must be proved, and no public officer should be condemned on the strength of claims that are not supported by evidence.
It is in that spirit of fairness and transparency that we sit today. I thank Members for their commitment, and I thank our partners in the media for taking these proceedings to the Nigerian people”, Mr. Ugochinyere said.
Following the submission of the sub-committee on petroleum ( Downstream) by the sub-committee chairman, Mr
Ibrahim Aliyu, which cleared NIPCO Gas, Mr Ugochinyere said that the downstream sector touches the life of every Nigerian, from the price at the pump to the fare on the bus and the cost of food in the market.
In a text themed “The Renewed Hope Downstream Sector Agenda Is Working And Has Brought Stability To The Sector” Mr. Ugochinyere said that Nigerians therefore deserve to see, first-hand, how their representatives carry out oversight of this sector.
He added that the Committee will present its Roadmap on Downstream Energy Security that guarantees economic prosperity for all.
