Nigeria’s Minister of Housing and Urban Development, Muttaqha Darma, has met with Federal Controllers of Housing from the 36 states and the Federal Capital Territory to review the implementation of national housing projects, address operational challenges, and strengthen coordination in delivering federal housing programmes.
The meeting, held in Abuja, brought together senior field officials of the ministry to assess ongoing projects and align implementation with the Federal Government’s housing priorities.
Darma outlined his policy direction for the ministry and urged the controllers to support efforts to build a more regulated, coordinated, and accountable housing sector.
He stressed that stronger collaboration among government agencies and industry stakeholders was essential to maximise the sector’s contribution to Nigeria’s economic growth.
The minister noted that the National Bureau of Statistics ranks the real estate sector as Nigeria’s third-largest contributor to Gross Domestic Product, highlighting its strategic importance to the economy.
He also called on the Federal Controllers to maintain high professional standards and discharge their responsibilities diligently to help the ministry achieve its presidential priorities and ministerial mandates.
Responding to issues raised during the meeting, Permanent Secretary Dr Shuaib Belgore directed the controllers to adhere strictly to established administrative and communication procedures in all engagements with the ministry, saying this would strengthen coordination and improve service delivery.
Darma reaffirmed the ministry’s commitment to implementing President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda, which seeks to expand access to housing and improve infrastructure nationwide.
