Indonesia’s national rescue agency says it is continuing the search for 125 people still missing after a passenger ship capsized in the Java Sea, between the islands of Java and Borneo, with 10 deaths confirmed.
The agency said divers recovered one more body from inside the vessel on Sunday, following the recovery of three bodies on Friday.
It said “108 people survived the incident.”
An official of the national rescue agency, Putu Sudayana, said a remotely operated vehicle would be deployed on Monday to assist divers in the search inside the vessel.
He said strong currents had hampered Sunday’s operation.
“Hopefully the weather at the site will be favourable so more victims trapped inside the ship can be evacuated,” Sudayana said.
The agency has extended the recovery operation by one week because of the large number of missing people and the time expected to salvage and right the vessel.
The passenger ship, Virgo Transport 8, was carrying 243 people, including 30 crew members, when it capsized in bad weather on September 13.
The vessel was travelling from Surabaya in East Java to Banjarmasin in South Kalimantan on a 20-hour journey.
