The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) in Ondo State has organised a workshop on Electoral Risk Management for security operatives and Electoral Officers ahead of Nigeria’s 2027 General Election.
The workshop, which brought together participants from the state’s 18 local government areas, focused on identifying potential electoral threats and strengthening preventive measures to ensure peaceful and credible elections.
The Resident Electoral Commissioner, Dr Mutiu Agboke, said elections were processes rather than isolated events, requiring adequate security at every stage to protect lives, electoral personnel and materials.

He urged participants to assess security challenges peculiar to their respective areas and develop strategies to address potential threats, particularly at collation centres.
The Head of the Department of Planning and Monitoring, Wasiu Olundegun, said “the workshop was designed to improve electoral risk assessment, strengthen early warning and response mechanisms, and enhance cooperation among stakeholders.”
In a goodwill message, the Ondo State Commissioner of Police, Felix Ohagwu, represented by CSP Ovunda Janet, assured INEC of adequate security before, during and after the elections.
The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps also reaffirmed its commitment to supporting a peaceful electoral process.
Participants subsequently held group discussions across the three senatorial districts, identifying possible electoral risks and proposing measures to prevent or mitigate them.
