The Interfaith Mediation Centre (IMC), in collaboration with the German Embassy in Abuja, has mobilised 100 women in Kasuwan Magani, Kajuru Local Government Area of Kaduna State, to promote peace, religious tolerance and community unity through cultural cooking.
The initiative was organised to mark the 2026 International Day of Peace under the theme, “Cultivating Our Cultural Heritage and Investing in Peace in Kajuru and its Environs.”
Women from different religious and cultural backgrounds participated in the event by preparing and showcasing traditional meals as a means of promoting social cohesion and peaceful coexistence.
Speaking at the event, the Director of IMC, Mr Samson Auta, said investing in women and strengthening interfaith leadership were critical to building peaceful and resilient communities.
Auta urged the participants to promote dialogue, early warning and early response mechanisms, while rejecting misinformation and divisive narratives.
He explained that the programme was supported by the German Embassy under a project aimed at strengthening women’s interfaith leadership for human rights protection, transitional justice and democratic stability in Kaduna State.
Also speaking, a peace ambassador, Mr Jonathan Peter, said the cultural cooking initiative demonstrated how traditional heritage could be used to promote peace and unity.
He said bringing women from different religious and cultural backgrounds together to prepare and share traditional meals showed that diversity could serve as a source of strength rather than division.
One of the participants, Mrs Mary Sani, said the programme reminded participants of the peaceful coexistence traditionally enjoyed between Muslims and Christians in the community.
She added that the gathering demonstrated that people from different religious and cultural backgrounds could live and work together in harmony.
