Iran, Oman End Hormuz Talks Without Breakthrough

Iran and Oman have wrapped up negotiations on the Strait of Hormuz without achieving a major breakthrough, according to Iran’s Foreign Ministry.

The vital shipping route, located between Iran to the north and Oman to the south, places both nations at the centre of efforts to safeguard maritime traffic through the strait.

Despite the lack of a final agreement, both countries agreed to continue political and technical discussions “to reach a common understanding on ensuring the security of navigation,” the ministry said.

Tehran also disclosed that a Qatari delegation participated in the talks held in Muscat, Oman’s capital.

The Iranian Foreign Ministry said Qatar served as a mediator between Tehran and Washington during the negotiations.

The talks come amid renewed tensions following repeated exchanges of fire between Iran and the United States over the past week, which have weakened an interim agreement reached last month to end hostilities and reopen the crucial waterway.

U.S. President Donald Trump declared the ceasefire “over” but maintained that Washington remains willing to engage in further talks with Tehran.
