The Nigerian Supreme Council for Islamic Affairs (NSCIA) has congratulated the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) and the Christian community on the Association’s 50th anniversary.

In a statement signed by its Secretary-General, Professor Is-haq Oloyede, the NSCIA President-General and Sultan of Sokoto, Muhammad Sa’ad Abubakar, described the golden jubilee as “a significant milestone for the Christian community and Nigeria.”

The Council acknowledged the role of religious leaders and institutions in promoting peace, dialogue, mutual understanding and peaceful coexistence among the country’s diverse religious communities.

It stressed that Muslims and Christians share a common responsibility to promote peace, justice, security, responsible citizenship and national development.

The NSCIA also called for sustained interfaith dialogue and cooperation, particularly through the Nigeria Inter-Religious Council (NIREC), to address challenges such as insecurity, poverty, unemployment and social inequality.

The Council urged religious leaders to continue promoting national unity and peaceful coexistence, stressing that religious differences should not become sources of division, hatred or violence.
