Jigawa State Governor, Malam Umar Namadi, has pledged to sustain efforts towards building a peaceful, just and economically prosperous state as Jigawa marks 35 years of its creation.
In a message to commemorate the anniversary, Governor Namadi described the milestone as an opportunity to celebrate the state’s achievements, honour its founding fathers and renew commitment to the ideals that have guided its development.
Jigawa State was created on August 27, 1991, by the military administration of former Head of State, General Ibrahim Badamasi Babangida, following its separation from the old Kano State.
The Governor expressed gratitude to Allah for the progress recorded by the state since its creation and acknowledged the sacrifices and contributions of past leaders, traditional rulers, public servants and citizens who have contributed to its growth.

Namadi paid tribute to successive leaders of the state, including the pioneer Military Administrator, Major-General Olayinka Sule; former civilian governors Ali Sa’ad Birnin-Kudu, Ibrahim Saminu Turaki, Sule Lamido and Muhammad Badaru Abubakar, as well as other military administrators who served the state.
He also commended former deputy governors, legislators, members of the judiciary, commissioners, heads of service, permanent secretaries, local government officials and other civil servants for their service to Jigawa.
The Governor recognised the important role played by traditional institutions across the Hadejia, Kazaure, Gumel, Ringim and Dutse Emirates in preserving the state’s heritage, promoting peace and strengthening the relationship between government and communities.
He said Jigawa’s development over the past 35 years was the result of collective efforts by its people, particularly farmers, traders, teachers, health workers, artisans, entrepreneurs, scholars, security personnel, religious leaders and other citizens.
“From the earliest days of institution-building to the present, Jigawa has advanced through the steady labour of its people,” Namadi said.
According to him, the most meaningful way to honour the state’s founding fathers is to uphold the principles of peace, justice, responsible governance and equitable opportunities.
He said his administration would continue to prioritise sustainable development, socioeconomic wellbeing, institutional strengthening and investment in young people, while giving greater attention to vulnerable members of society.
Namadi urged the people of Jigawa to embrace the spirit of unity and collective responsibility as the state enters another phase of its development journey.
