Kaduna State Assembly passes amended Local Govt bill into law

The Kaduna State house of assembly has on Tuesday, 23rd February passed a bill to amend the local government law no 3 of 2018 in the State.

The bill is aimed at improving the operation of local government system in the State.

The Speaker of the Kaduna State House of Assembly Hon. Yusuf Zailani  who was represented by the his deputy, Hon. Auta Zankhai of Kauru/Chawai constituency while presiding on today’s plenary said some of the proposed amendment bill include among others;

That the law after being amended might be cited as Kaduna State Local Government Law (amendment law 2021).

“That a minimum of secondary school certificate must be provided to the electoral commission, and the chairman, vice chairman and their councils shall be sworn in on the same day by the governor or his representative, 

“The council shall remain dissolved commencing from the day of the expiration of their three years tenure.”

Meanwhile, the bill for a law to appropriate the sum of sixty three billion, six hundred and sixty four million, six hundred and fifty thousand, one hundred and thirty six naira, eighty nine kobo(N63, 664, 650, 136.89) for the 23 local government councils in Kaduna state for the year ending 31st December,  2021, the bill for a law to repeal the Kaduna state rehabilitation board, law no.7 of 2005 and substitute it with Kaduna state disability affairs board law 2021 and the bill for a law to provide for the establishment of Kaduna state pilgrims welfare agency 2021 scaled through first and second reading.

The bills were however referred to the appropriate committees for further legislative action.
