The Kaduna State Government has said its ongoing distribution of essential medicines, safe delivery kits and medical equipment to Primary Health Care (PHC) centres is aimed at significantly improving maternal and child health outcomes across the state.
The Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, Sadiq Mamman, Lagos, stated this during the flag-off of the distribution exercise at Unguwan Sarki Primary Health Care Centre.
He said the intervention is part of Governor Uba Sani’s health sector reforms designed to reduce maternal and infant mortality by ensuring that primary healthcare facilities are adequately equipped to handle routine and emergency cases.
Mamman also noted that many preventable maternal deaths occur due to a lack of essential drugs, delivery kits and functional equipment at the primary healthcare level, a gap the current administration is working to close.
He explained that the distribution at Ungwan Sarki PHC is part of a broader statewide strategy covering all 255 Primary Health Care Centres to ensure uniform access to life-saving medical commodities.
Mamman Lagos said the intervention will also strengthen emergency obstetric care services, enabling health workers to respond effectively to complications during pregnancy and childbirth.
He added that the availability of essential medicines and delivery kits at PHCs will reduce pressure on secondary and tertiary health facilities, while improving confidence in primary healthcare services among residents.
The commissioner reaffirmed the commitment of the Uba Sani administration to building a resilient healthcare system anchored on accessibility, affordability and quality service delivery at the grassroots.
He urged health workers to ensure proper utilisation of the supplies and to remain committed to delivering safe and professional healthcare services to communities across Kaduna State.
