Kano State Governor, Abba Yusuf, has distributed N55.8 million in grants to 1,116 young entrepreneurs in the metropolis as part of efforts to promote self-employment and strengthen small businesses.
Each beneficiary received N50,000 under the state government’s youth empowerment initiative, which targets petty traders, shoe repairers and other operators of small-scale businesses across the metropolis.
Speaking during the presentation of the grants at the Government House in Kano, Yusuf said the intervention was designed to help beneficiaries expand their businesses, improve their livelihoods and contribute to the state’s economic development.
The governor said the programme was also part of his administration’s commitment to fulfilling its campaign pledge to create opportunities for young people and reduce unemployment.
He urged the beneficiaries to make effective use of the funds, commending them for remaining committed to legitimate businesses despite the prevailing economic difficulties.
Yusuf said his administration would continue to introduce targeted interventions to support small-scale enterprises and create more economic opportunities for youths across the state.
According to him, the government remained focused on implementing people-oriented policies that would improve the welfare and living conditions of residents.
He also thanked Kano youths for their continued support and confidence in his administration, saying their encouragement had strengthened the government’s determination to sustain programmes aimed at improving the lives of citizens.
The governor assured residents that additional empowerment initiatives would be introduced to widen access to economic opportunities across the state.
