Kano state Governor, Dr. Abdullahi Umar Ganduje has relieved his Special Adviser on Media, Salihu Tanko Yakasai off his appointment over his continued unguarded comments and utterances which are deemed contrary to the stand of the All Progressive Congress (APC) government which he is serving.

The state commissioner for Information, Malam Muhammad Garba, who conveyed the governor’s directive in a statement Saturday, said the sack is with immediate effect.

The aide had failed to differentiate between personal opinion and official stand on matters of public concern and therefore cannot be allowed to continue to serve in a government he does not believe,” he said.

The governor also warned political appointees and public servants to guard against making statements capable of drawing superfluous controversy.

The statement reaffirmed the commitment of Governor Ganduje to the policies and programmes of the administration of President Muhammadu Buhari.

What was said

The former Special Adviser to Governor Ganduje on Media, Salihu Tanko Yakasai had on Friday in a series of tweets, criticized  President Buhari and APC  Governors over the security situation in the country, especially the abduction of the 317 female students from a Government Secondary School in Jangebe in Zamfara State, Northern Western Nigeria.

He urged them in the tweets to resign if they cannot resolve the security challenges.

His father, Tanko Yakassi, an elder statesman alleged that security operatives on Friday evening picked up his son on his way to a barbing saloon in Kano metropolis. A claim the Kano State Command of the DSS had denied..

Reacting to the development, a public Affairs commentator Abba Dukawa justified the sacking of the Governor’s Media Aide saying you cannot be part of a government as an appointee and criticise it.

“You cannot be part of a government and criticise it. It baffles any right thinking  person seeing appointees of a government criticising it. Condemning the action of a government you’re part of is tantamount to sabotage,” Dukawa said

Last year, the former media Aide, Salihu Tanko Yakasai was involved in a controversial tweet against the Government, which led to his suspension. He was later reinstated after showing remorse for the act.
