The Kano State Police Command says security across the state improved in the first quarter of 2026, citing a decline in criminal activities.
The Commissioner of Police, Ibrahim Adamu Bakori, disclosed the details at a press briefing in Kano, attributing the development to ongoing reforms and strategic policing initiatives.

Bakori said the command adopted community policing, intelligence-led operations, and strengthened collaboration with other security agencies to combat crime.
He noted that “Operation Kukan Kura” contributed to a reduction in thuggery, locally known as Fadan Daba.
According to him, the police also curtailed banditry, mediated farmers-herders clashes through dialogue, and arrested suspects linked to armed robbery, kidnapping, drug trafficking, and cybercrime.
He added that several stolen items were recovered during the period.
The commissioner further revealed that more than 2,000 suspected drug dealers were identified through open-source intelligence, noting that investigations are ongoing and action would follow verification.
Despite the progress, Bakori acknowledged persisting security challenges and assured residents of sustained efforts to maintain peace.
He commended the support of the Inspector-General of Police, Olatunji Rilwan Disu, and Abba Kabir Yusuf, as well as the cooperation of Kano residents.
Bakori urged the public to continue supporting the police to enhance safety and security across the state.
