Kwara APC Reconciliation Committee Seeks End to Internal Disputes

Tunde Akanbi, Ilorin

The Kwara State All Progressives Congress (APC) Reconciliation Committee has intensified efforts to resolve internal disputes within the party, urging members to refrain from inflammatory public exchanges while inviting the G15 Group to join ongoing peace talks.

The committee, chaired by Dr Abdulwahab Lawal, made the appeal in a statement issued on Tuesday, saying it had made significant progress in its mandate to reconcile aggrieved members through extensive consultations with key party stakeholders.

According to the statement, “the committee met over the past week with State House of Assembly aspirants, elders’ groups, local government party executives and other party structures, describing the engagements as open, frank and encouraging.”

It said the consultations reflected a shared commitment among stakeholders to preserve the unity and cohesion of the ruling party in the state.

The committee also disclosed that it had continued to brief the state executive on developments, expressing appreciation for the leadership’s support throughout the reconciliation process.

To create an atmosphere conducive to dialogue, it urged all party members to immediately desist from making provocative public statements or engaging in actions capable of deepening divisions within the party.

The Committee further advised that suspensions imposed on members in the name of party discipline should be put on hold for the time being, while legitimate party activities continue in good faith and with mutual respect.

It commended party members for their patience, cooperation and constructive contributions, noting that several position papers and public submissions had strengthened its mediation efforts.

The Committee particularly praised two governorship aspirants, Femi Araba and Prof. Wale Suleiman, for independently appealing to party members to remain calm and embrace reconciliation.

The committee acknowledged the support of the APC Unity Group in Abuja for mobilising stakeholders and promoting reconciliation through sustained consultations and engagements.

As part of efforts to broaden the peace process, it formally invited the G15 Group to participate in the reconciliation initiative.

The APC committee said members of the group were held in high regard and expressed its readiness to engage them both collectively and individually to address outstanding concerns.

“We extend our olive branch to them and pray Almighty God softens the hearts of everyone,” the committee said, urging all APC members to support ongoing efforts aimed at fostering lasting peace, unity and harmony within the party,” it added.
