Kwara Farmers Receive Inputs, Processing Equipment

By Tunde Akanbi, Ilorin

Agricultural production in Kwara State has received a boost as the All Progressives Congress (APC) candidate for the Ifelodun/Offa/Oyun Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives, Dr Rafiu Ajakaye, facilitated the provision of farm inputs and processing equipment for farmers and rural entrepreneurs in Offa Local Government Area.

The intervention, aimed at supporting local food production, improving agricultural productivity and strengthening rural livelihoods, includes a tractor, a five-in-one rice separator, a garri processing machine, a grinding machine and a dry-smoked fish processing machine.

Other items provided include sprayers, bags of fertiliser, and hybrid maize and rice seeds to support farming activities.

The equipment and inputs are expected to help beneficiaries improve farm operations, process agricultural produce more efficiently and create opportunities for increased income generation.

The intervention also underscores the importance of providing farmers with the equipment and essential inputs needed to improve productivity, reduce post-harvest losses and strengthen the agricultural value chain.

Reacting to the development, the Offa Local Government APC Chairman, Hon. Nasiru Adegboye, commended Ajakaye for facilitating the support, describing it as a welcome development for farmers and other beneficiaries.

Adegboye said access to agricultural equipment and inputs would strengthen farming activities and contribute to the economic development of the community.

He also prayed for Ajakaye’s success in the forthcoming general elections, expressing hope that his commitment to community development would continue to benefit the people.

Similarly, the Coordinator of the Dr Rafiu Ajakaye Team, Mallam Aliyu, praised the APC candidate for facilitating the intervention, noting that practical support for farmers was essential to improving livelihoods and promoting grassroots development.

He said initiatives that provide farmers with the necessary tools and inputs could contribute to increased agricultural output and improved food security.

Agriculture remains a critical sector for food security, employment and rural economic development in Nigeria. Providing farmers with improved seeds, fertilisers, machinery and processing facilities can help enhance productivity and increase the value of agricultural produce.

Ajakaye is seeking election to represent the Ifelodun/Offa/Oyun Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives on the platform of the APC.
