Kwara PDP conducts peaceful ward congress, adopts consensus arrangement

The Peoples Democratic Party PDP in Kwara State has commended members of the party for the successful and peaceful conduct of the ward congress which took place on Saturday across the 193 wards in the State.

A statement by the State Publicity Secretary of the party, Tunde Ashaolu noted that leadership of the party was impressed by the turnout and conduct of members of the party during the exercise that was monitored by officials from the national secretariat of the party.

Ashaolu said: “As a party that respects due process and is committed to internal democracy, we welcome the choices made by delegates during the ward congress.”

According to the statement, the ward congress is part of several efforts being taken as a party to strengthen their support base at the grassroots and also build a formidable party that is ready to take over power from the All Progressives Congress APC administration.

“We appreciate leaders, elders and relevant stakeholders within the party especially our national leader, Dr Abubakar Bukola Saraki, for their contributions towards the successful conduct of the ward congress.

“We also commend party members for demonstrating maturity, understanding and cooperation before, during and after the exercise that took place across the State. This is a reflection of the unity, understanding and respect that dwell within the Kwara PDP family. 

The statement added that the party strongly believes that the same level of understanding and cooperation will be sustained during the forthcoming local government and state congresses.

The party congratulated the newly elected party officers at the ward levels and urged them to see their election as a call to serve and further contribute to the growth and development of the PDP.

Meanwhile, the former Senator that represented Kwara South in the 8th Senate,  Dr. Rafiu Ibrahim who also participated in the party’s ward congress held at Ojoku ward, Oyun local government area of the State has  commended the former Senate President, Dr Saraki for providing quality leadership and direction for the party.

 “We appreciate the roles of our leader, Dr Abubakar Bukola Saraki, Elders, Stakeholders and all party faithful across the State. Indeed, power belongs to the people”, the former lawmaker reaffirmed.

The Congress which took place across the 193 wards across the 16 local government areas of Kwara state ushered in the new executives that will pilot the affairs of the party for four years.

The party adopted consensus arrangement in most wards to elect their ward executives.

Some of the elected ward executives that spoke with VON on the outcome of the congress commended the peaceful conduct of the exercise and were of the view that the affirmation arrangement put in place by the party leadership are evidence that the party is fully prepared to clinch key offices during the 2023 elections.
