The Lagos State House of Assembly has constituted an eight-member ad hoc committee to identify, document, and recover government-owned assets across the state, in order to strengthen accountability in resource management.
The Chairman, House Committee on Asset Recovery, and lawmaker representing Kosofe Constituency II, Obafemi Saheed, said the committee began engaging ministries, departments, and agencies on Friday, October 9, at the Assembly Complex.
Saheed said the exercise formed part of the house oversight function to ensure that government properties are properly accounted for and utilised for the benefit of residents.
“This exercise will help determine assets owned by the state, assess their current conditions, and establish whether they were being effectively utilised for the benefit of residents,” he said.

He warned that heads of ministries and institutions who failed to honour the committee’s invitations would face sanctions, saying that the committee had the power to subpoena anyone and seek the house approval to issue a warrant of arrest against recalcitrants.
Agencies that have appeared before the committee include the Lagos State New Town Development Authority, Lagos State Waterways Authority, Lagos Metropolitan Area Transport Authority, Lagos State Council for Arts and Culture.
Others are; Ministry of Basic and Secondary Education, Ministry of Tertiary Education, Ministry of Wealth Creation and Employment, Lagos State Ferry Services, Lagos State Printing Corporation, Lagos State Agriculture Input Supply Authority, and Lagos State Agriculture Development Authority.
The initiative reflects growing legislative scrutiny of public asset management to block revenue leakages and improve transparency in governance.
