The Anambra State Government in South-eastern Nigeria, has reaffirmed its commitment to strengthening the Micro, Small and Medium-sized Enterprises (MSMEs) sector.
The state government described entrepreneurship as a key driver of economic growth, job creation and sustainable development.
The commitment was reiterated in a statement issued by the State Commissioner for Commerce, Mr. Nonso Chukwuma Ebonwu, to commemorate World MSMEs Day.
Ebonwu said; “MSMEs remain the backbone of the economy due to their resilience, innovation and contribution to employment generation, improved livelihoods and inclusive economic growth.”
Reflecting on this year’s theme, “The Future Generation of MSMEs,“ the Commissioner said the global observance provides an opportunity for governments and stakeholders to strengthen policies and programmes that equip entrepreneurs with the knowledge, skills and resources required to build resilient, innovative and globally competitive businesses.
He noted that “the administration of Governor Chukwuma Soludo has continued to implement strategic initiatives aimed at expanding enterprise development through capacity building, business-friendly reforms, improved market access, strategic partnerships and other interventions designed to strengthen Anambra’s MSME ecosystem.”
According to Ebonwu, while access to finance remains essential for business growth, sustainable enterprise development also depends on sound corporate governance, continuous capacity development and timely access to information that enables entrepreneurs to respond to emerging market opportunities.
He encouraged entrepreneurs, business owners and prospective investors to take advantage of the various support programmes and opportunities provided by the state government to establish sustainable businesses, create jobs and contribute to Anambra’s economic transformation.
The Commissioner also reaffirmed the state’s commitment to policies that promote entrepreneurship, attract investment and strengthen the MSME sector, expressing confidence that ongoing reforms would further position Anambra as one of Nigeria’s leading centres for commerce, innovation and industrial development.
World MSMEs Day, observed annually, was established by the United Nations to highlight the critical role of micro, small and medium-sized enterprises in achieving sustainable development, fostering innovation and expanding employment opportunities worldwide.
