Lithuanian President Gitanas Nauseda on Monday approved the lineup of a new government headed by Prime Minister Mindaugas Sinkevicius, clearing the way for the cabinet to assume office once it completes the required parliamentary procedures.
The new administration retains several ministers from the previous government, including Foreign Minister Kestutis Budrys, while appointing new officials to several key ministries.
The cabinet was formed after Prime Minister Inga Ruginiene’s government resigned last month following a reshuffle within the ruling coalition. The governing Social Democratic Party ended its alliance with the Nemuno Ausra party and reinstated the Union of Democrats “For Lithuania” into the coalition, a move that required the formation of a new government under Lithuanian law.

Sinkevicius, who was confirmed as prime minister by parliament last week, said his administration would prioritise political stability, stronger national security, and the implementation of economic and social reforms.
The new government is expected to officially take office after parliament grants final approval to its governing program.
