Mazino Dickson-Amagada of Voice of Nigeria (VON) has been selected for the 2026 UK Media Excellence for Emerging Technology (UK-MEET) Fellowship, an initiative aimed at strengthening journalism on artificial intelligence (AI), scientific innovation and emerging technologies.
The fellowship, delivered by Imperial College London through Imperial Global, with support from the British High Commission, seeks to equip journalists with the skills to investigate technological developments and communicate their implications to the public.
The programme attracted more than 500 applications from journalists and digital content creators across Nigeria and Ghana.
Innovation
The UK-MEET Fellowship focuses on improving media coverage of emerging technologies, including AI, health innovation and climate technology.
Through specialised training, engagement with experts and editorial guidance, participants are expected to strengthen their ability to scrutinise scientific claims, investigate technological developments and translate complex information into accessible news reports.
The programme also seeks to promote evidence-based journalism and improve public understanding of technologies increasingly influencing healthcare, governance, economic development and everyday life.
As AI becomes more prominent in research, news production, data analysis and multimedia storytelling, journalists face growing demands to understand its opportunities, limitations and ethical implications.
The fellowship is expected to support more informed reporting on innovation while strengthening accountability and public-interest journalism.
