Nigeria’s Minister of Power, Joseph Tegbe, has inaugurated the newly constituted Governing Board of the Rural Electrification Agency (REA), charging members to prioritise decisions that improve will the lives and livelihoods of Nigerians.
At the inauguration ceremony in Abuja, Tegbe said the Board’s constitution aligns with President Bola Tinubu’s commitment to strengthening governance and accountability across public institutions.
He described the REA as a key institution for expanding access to electricity, noting that projects such as mini-grids, solar home systems and the electrification of schools, health centres, markets and farms are investments in human capital and economic growth.
The Minister highlighted ongoing initiatives, including the Energising Education, Energising Economies and Energising Agriculture Programmes, as well as the Africa Mini-Grids Programme, describing them as critical to advancing rural electrification.

Tegbe also clarified the distinct roles of the Board and Management, explaining that while the Board provides strategic direction and oversight, the Agency’s Management is responsible for day-to-day operations and remains accountable for implementation.
He expressed confidence in the Board, led by former Ekiti State Governor, Ayodele Fayose, and pledged the Ministry’s continued support in advancing electricity access as a tool for inclusion, opportunity and national development.
Responding on behalf of the Board, Chairman Ayodele Fayose commended President Bola Tinubu for appointing Tegbe as Minister of Power, describing the appointment as a demonstration of the administration’s determination to deliver lasting solutions to Nigeria’s power challenges.
Fayose pledged the Board’s commitment to working closely with the Ministry and REA’s Management to accelerate rural electrification and improve electricity access across the country.
