Minister Tasks Students to Drive Tech Revolution

By Othniel Canice, Abuja

Nigeria’s Minister of Communications, Innovation and Digital Economy, Dr. Bosun Tijani, has called on Nigerian students to take active roles in driving the country’s technological transformation.

He made the appeal during the commissioning and handover of the Renewed Hope-NITDA Innovation Hub at Obafemi Awolowo University (OAU), Ile-Ife, Osun State.

The facility, established by the National Information Technology Development Agency (NITDA) in partnership with the Renewed Hope Initiative, is designed to help students transform classroom knowledge into practical technological solutions.

Speaking at the event, Tijani described the hub as an investment in the potential of Nigerian youth rather than just a physical structure.

He noted that the centre is equipped with advanced laboratories for Artificial Intelligence, Robotics, Additive Manufacturing, and the Internet of Things.

The minister said the innovation hub is a significant step towards bridging the gap between academic learning and the rapidly changing demands of the global technology industry.

While the facility will be open to the wider community, he stressed that its primary purpose is to empower students to innovate and create impactful solutions.

Tijani urged members of the university community to maximise the opportunities provided by the hub to develop technologies that will strengthen Nigeria’s digital economy and enhance the country’s position in the global technology landscape.
