The National Agency for the Control of AIDS (NACA) has begun a four-day assessment of HIV services for key populations in Anambra, in a move to strengthen access to quality and non-discriminatory HIV care across Nigeria.
The assessment, which began on September 14 and ends on September 17, 2026, is being conducted in collaboration with the Anambra State AIDS Control Agency (ANSACA) across five selected health facilities.
ANSACA Public Relations Officer, Obianuju Isima, said the exercise was designed to assess the quality and accessibility of HIV services provided to key populations at the facilities.
She said it would also determine how well healthcare workers trained under a Global Fund-supported programme were applying the skills acquired during the training.
According to her, the training focused on providing sensitive, respectful, inclusive and non-discriminatory HIV prevention, testing, treatment and care services.
Isima said the assessment would help identify gaps in service delivery and enable technical support to improve the quality and accessibility of services.
She said ensuring that key populations could access HIV services without stigma or discrimination remained important to strengthening Nigeria’s overall HIV response.
The NACA delegation is being supported by stakeholders in the state’s HIV programme, including the State AIDS and STI Control Programme (SASCP) and the State Key Population Chair.
Isima said the collaboration between NACA and ANSACA would help strengthen HIV service delivery and improve access for vulnerable and underserved groups in Anambra.
The assessment is part of wider efforts to ensure that people at increased risk of HIV have access to prevention, testing, treatment and care services without discrimination.
