The Nigerian Air Force (NAF) has commissioned a series of accommodation, medical and recreational facilities in Abuja as part of efforts to improve personnel welfare, boost morale and enhance operational readiness.
The projects, inaugurated by the Chief of the Air Staff (CAS), Air Marshal Sunday Kelvin Aneke, include Airmen’s Quarters at Mogadishu Cantonment and Abacha Road, the 065 Medical Officer’s Quarters and the NAF Valley Base Sports Complex in Asokoro.
Speaking at the commissioning ceremony, Aneke described the projects as a significant milestone in the Service’s efforts to improve infrastructure and provide better living conditions for its personnel.
He said the facilities went beyond physical structures, describing them as a reflection of the NAF’s deliberate commitment to personnel welfare, physical well-being and operational effectiveness.
According to him, the demands of military service require personnel to remain focused, physically fit and mentally prepared, making adequate accommodation and recreational facilities essential to sustaining morale, strengthening unit cohesion and maintaining operational readiness.
The CAS said the new accommodation would provide secure and conducive living environments for airmen, while the sports complex would promote physical fitness, recreation, teamwork and esprit de corps.
Aneke also disclosed that the NAF was developing a sustainable housing initiative to enable more personnel to own homes.
He said discussions were ongoing with banks and relevant government agencies to address factors that make housing expensive and limit access to affordable homeownership.
The CAS said the initiative reflected the Service’s commitment to supporting personnel and their families during and after active service.
In recognition of sacrifice and gallantry, Aneke announced that some of the newly commissioned accommodation blocks had been named after officers and airmen who paid the supreme price in service to the nation or distinguished themselves in military operations.
He said the gesture would preserve the memory of fallen heroes, honour outstanding service and inspire future generations of NAF personnel.
Aneke reaffirmed that the projects aligned with his leadership vision of maintaining a highly motivated force through enhanced welfare and infrastructural renewal.
