The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Nasarawa State has affirmed its support for the Rainbow Coalition led by the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike.
The PDP governorship candidate in the state, Dr Emmanuel David Ombugadu, stated this during the flag-off of his governorship campaign in Lafia, the state capital.
Ombugadu said the entire PDP family in the state would align with the direction of Wike, whom he described as the national leader of the coalition.
“We want to affirm today that the entire Nasarawa State stands for the Rainbow Coalition. We are all united in support of our national leader, the FCT Minister, Nyesom Wike.
“We are waiting for our national leader to give us direction. Wherever he goes, we will go,” he declared.
The candidate also asked national leaders present at the event to convey the regards of the people of Nasarawa State to Wike, whom he described as a “national leader with capacity.”
“Please take our warm regards to him. The people of Nasarawa State are eagerly waiting for him to pay a visit to Nasarawa State.
“We love him, we believe in his vision, we believe in his charisma, and we believe in his capacity,” Ombugadu said.
He said that, if elected, his administration would prioritise security and innovation and run an inclusive government.
Ombugadu said Nasarawa State was blessed with solid minerals, including gold, lithium and wolframite, but maintained that the resources had not sufficiently benefited the people.
He promised improved healthcare for pregnant women and better security for farmers, saying “his administration would ensure that farmers could sleep safely on their farms.”
Ombugadu also pledged to run a government in which all citizens would have a voice.
“We will sit down. What we will do is what you want, not what a single person wants. We will all sit down and look at what you need in your locality. What are your needs? What is your contribution?” he said.
He thanked the people of the state for their commitment and urged them to protect their votes to ensure the emergence of a government that would represent their interests.
Speaking at the event, the PDP National Deputy Chairman, North, Yusuf Nya Agirikwe, said the party had the mandate of the people to govern Nasarawa State in 2027.
Agirikwe said the party could only actualise its electoral objective if its supporters voted and protected their votes.
The supporters responded with chants of “PDP! Power to the people!”
He charged party supporters to mobilise voters across the state, saying the PDP was the winning party in Nasarawa State.
“From today, go and tell your friends that PDP is the winning party. Go out and bring your votes,” he added.
