Nathaniel Bassey Makes History With One Billion YouTube Views

Nathaniel Bassey has made history as the first African gospel artist to surpass one billion views on YouTube.

According to figures from his official channel, Nathaniel Bassey Main, the platform had recorded more than 1.014 billion views and 5.24 million subscribers by November 1, 2026.

Created on March 4, 2011, the channel reached the milestone after over 15 years of consistent music releases, worship sessions and ministry broadcasts.

Despite the channel’s huge audience, Bassey has said its main purpose is worship and spiritual devotion rather than generating income.

The milestone coincided with the October 2026 edition of the Hallelujah Challenge, the online midnight worship and prayer programme he launched in 2017.

The initiative has attracted participants from around the world and contributed significantly to the channel’s increased visibility.

Known for songs such as Imela, Onise Iyanu, Olowogbogboro and You Are God, Bassey has become a major figure in African gospel music.

The success of his channel and the Hallelujah Challenge highlights the growing global influence of African gospel artists, while some fans have encouraged him to consider monetising the large audience attracted to his worship sessions.
