The House of Representatives celebrated Nigerian children on the occasion of the 2026 National Children’s Day, recognising them as the hope of our nation and the foundation of a stronger and more prosperous Nigeria.
This year’s theme, “Future Now: Promoting Inclusion for Every Nigerian Child”, is a timely reminder that every child deserves equal opportunity to learn, grow, and thrive regardless of background, gender, disability, faith, or social status. The House remains particularly mindful of vulnerable children, including those living with disabilities and children in underserved or conflict-affected communities.

Speaker of the House of Representatives, Mr Abbas Tajudeen, in a goodwill message, described children as the heartbeat of every society, noting that their dreams, creativity, resilience, and potential must be nurtured and protected.
“The future of every nation is written first in the lives of its children. When we invest in their education, character, health, and aspirations, we are not merely shaping individual destinies; we are building the foundation of a stronger, wiser, and more compassionate Nigeria,” the Speaker stated.
He said that even as the nation celebrates its children today, the House is deeply mindful of the painful realities confronting many families across the country, particularly recent attacks targeting schools and the abduction of children aged between two and sixteen years.
“The House strongly condemns these cowardly acts and calls for sustained efforts to secure schools, ensure the safe return of children still in captivity, and guarantee that no Nigerian child is excluded from protection, opportunity, or hope,” he said.
He noted that in line with its constitutional mandate, the House remains committed to strengthening child protection systems through legislation, oversight, advocacy, and collaboration with relevant stakeholders, while also improving access to quality education and healthcare for every Nigerian child.
“As we commemorate this special day, the House calls on all Nigerians to continue to protect, support, and inspire our children, because the future of Nigeria will ultimately be defined by how faithfully we nurture, educate, and empower the next generation.
“The House of Representatives wishes all Nigerian children a joyful, safe, and memorable Children’s Day celebration,” the Speaker added.
