The National Personal Asset Acquisition Scheme, NAPAAS says five thousand ex-servicemen and their widows have benefited from its empowerment programme.
The Managing Director of NAPAAS, Mr Wali Bello, disclosed this to Journalists at the gala night which was part of the Organisation’s activities to mark its fifth year Anniversary in Abuja, the nation’s capital.
Mr Bello noted that NAPAAS’ schemes cut across Agriculture, Transportation, Health, Housing, Education, Skills Acquisition and Empowerment fund adding that ex-servicemen, wives of ex-servicemen, their widows, and children had benefitted individually.
“In NAPAAS, we have the assets Acquisition scheme, the joint venture partnership and the NAPAAS empowerment development fund/foundation and under it we have the basic needs, then we also have the joint partnership, that is housing, transportation, agriculture, health and other basic necessities of life for the beneficiaries
“For instance, we are partnering the Federal Mortgage Bank, National Housing Fund to get low-income housing for these ex-servicemen and skill acquisition to build their capacity so they have something to fall on at the end of the day,” he said.
The Director-General explained that the scheme planned to inaugurate an evaluation, monitoring and implementation committee to monitor the impact of the programme on beneficiaries, with a view to making it better for the welfare of ex-servicemen, wives of ex-servicemen, their widows, and children of fallen heroes.
Similarly, the NAPAAS National Coordinator, Engineer. Eze Nnadi said the scheme was conceived to alleviate the sufferings of the ex-service Officers.
In her remarks, a NAPAAS project beneficiary, Mrs Elizabeth Mahmudu, said she had gotten immense assistance from the scheme also had received cash, acquire skill acquisition and presently on the list of the next batch of tricycles.
Earlier, Ex-Servicemen Association, Warrant Officer, Anthony Agbas retired commended NAPAAS for its contribution to veterans and the widows of fallen heroes.
He, therefore, called upon other Private sectors and Organisations to emulate hat the scheme is doing for national development and so ‘that the labour of Nigerian heroes past shall never be in vain.
